Chingdang celebrated
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Chingdang, the festival of Miji community was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Tippi near Bhalukpong in West Kameng district.
Chingdang is the most important festival of the Mijis. It is an occasion for reunion among the local community.
The significance of the festival lies in a ceremony whereby the priest ties a piece of wool around everybody's neck. The belief is that the enchanted thread will bring good luck to each one of them.
Mega Chingdang festival is celebrated every year on October 15 and 16 among Sajolang (Miji) community of East Kameng and West Kameng district.
Tourism and RWD Minister Pema Khandu, Parliamentary Secretary Kumar Waii, MLA Kumsi Sidisow, former MP Kiren Rijiju, State Medicinal Plants Board vice chairman Soni Degio, Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Limited vice chairman Jabring Venia, Youth Congress spokesman Norbu Sonam and many dignitaries attended the festival.
Citing the popular maxim ‘loss of culture is loss of identity,’ Tourism Minister Pema exhorted the youths to protect and preserve their cultural heritage.
Cultural display, volleyball competition, traditional folk dances etc. were the main attractions of the festival.
‘Take up stapled visa issue with Centre’
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Terming the issuing of stapled visas to Arunachalee archers Yomi Sorang and Maselo Mihu by the Chinese embassy in New Delhi recently a great concern for young sportspersons and the patriotic Arunachalees, the All Arunachal Pradesh Gymnastics Association (AAPGA) today said it was high time that the state Government take up the issue with the Central Government to settle the matter amicably, ‘so that China refrains from such acts of discrimination in the future.’ China’s repeatedly issuing stapled visas to Arunachalees is condemnable, and the issue should be raised not only by the state but also by conscientious people from all corners of the country, vice president of Gymnastics Federation of India & AAPGA general secretary Nani Kojin stated in a press release.

ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Sanskar Bharati Arunachal Pradesh organized district level patriotic song competition “e mere watan ke logo” in collaboration with IFCSAP, Upper Subansiri district unit at Rijo ground, Daporijo on October 13.
Rupa Chador from Taksing, YalumRisi from Gusar and TalikLaa of Puchi Geko were adjudged first, second and third in the Upper Subansiri district level competition. They will represent the district in the state level competition Sarhad Ko Swaranjali 2013 to be held in the first week of November at Itanagar.
In total, 25 young budding artistes from various parts of the district participated in the competition.

ATYO for restriction on gambling
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: All Tagin Youth Oraganisation (ATYO) has appealed to the Upper Subansiri district administration not to issue dice (Gambling) permit for long days as it may create law and order problem in district headquarters and elsewhere in the district.
Claiming that dice permits were issued on October 5 last, but it is being played till today after Durga puja festivities, ATYO said playing of dice for longer period may create law and order problem. Saying that during Dipawali too, administration should issue permit for very limited period of time, the ATYO drew the attention of senior citizens, and prominent organizations of the district to take up the issue with appropriate authority.
Advocacy meeting on AIDS prevention
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) organized a one day advocacy meeting on prevention of HIV/AIDS with officers and Jail wardens of Central Jail Jully today.
Resource person of the advocacy, Dr. Moli Basar, MQ, ARTC, ASH gave the basic information about HIV/AIDS, including the different modes of HIV/AIDS transmission, their preventive measures and impact on society.
Highlighting the current HIV/AIDS scenario of state, he suggested the participants to spread the knowledge of HIV to their friends and family as only knowledge is the only vaccination in stopping spread of HIV/AIDS.
He also informed about the facilities provided by the Government for prevention activities and treatment of the infected person.
The programme ended with promise by participants to spread the knowledge to their friends and society and help APSACS to make zero new infection.
The programme was attended by the Assistant Jailer, officers and more than 30 wardens.
House gutted
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: The house of one Tarh Sikap at Papu Nallah here was gutted in a fire accident that broke out around 11.30 pm on October 12.
Informing that the fire also burned down Sikap’s properties and documents, the All Naharlagun Youth Welfare Association has urged the state government to provide immediate relief to the victim, who is the association’s chief auditor.

Tuki exhorts forest officials to work for increasing state’s forest cover
ITANAGAR, Oct 16: Reiterating his Government’s commitment to increase the state’s forest cover from the existing 82 percent to 90 percent, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today called upon the senior forest officers to shoulder the responsibility of increasing the forest cover with more zeal and vigour so that the target set by the government is achieved in few years from now.
“My government is committed to increase it by 90 per cent by controlling shifting cultivation, encroachment of forest, arresting forest fire, grazing and illegal removal of forest produce besides developing very dense area by way of undertaking plantation through development schemes of TFC, CAMPA, SFDA, National Bamboo Mission, etc,” Tuki said while addressing the senior forest officers meeting here today. “The percentage of forest cover of the state which stands at 82 per cent since a decade or so needs fluctuation. We cannot sit idly and boast of this percentage which we have been doing for long,” Tuki said.

NAHARLAGUN, Oct 16: Four persons from Bangalmara Miri Gaon, Assam were arrested yesterday
night in connection with abduction of one Nora Tapik who was kidnapped on October
14 from Harmutty along with the Tata Sumo that he was driving bearing registration

Newly elected ASM of Mangnang Oni Ering lamented that the authority has not yet developed necessary infrastructure of the Upper Primary school despite repeated pleas. Construction of teacher’s residential quarter in the school campus has been a long pending demand of the local villagers, which is reportedly unheard by the authority.
The ruined and only teachers’ quarter constructed four decades ago is lying abandoned for want of maintenance (see picture).
Director of School Education (DSO) T Taloh, who visited the school Tuesday to take stock of the condition, has assured to look into the various problems of the school for smooth functioning. The director also met the SMC members and local leaders and suggested them to take up any problem in the educational institutions with the department. The Upper Primary school has more than 70 students and five teachers.
The teachers are facing great problem in discharging duties as there is no quarter for them to stay near the school.
The SMC chairman Anyut Takoh, though a memorandum pleaded the DSO for posting of sufficient teachers and to provide necessary equipments.

Itafort needs Govt attention
Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention towards the Western gate Itafort Museum. On my summer vacation of our college, I used to visit Itafort museum of western gate, Bank Tinali Itanagar. I had seen that Itafort of western gate laying same as before; there was no change, I expected some new look for boundary wall of Itafort western gate, because it is directly visible from main road and it draws the attention of visitor and tourist.
There is no maintenance at all. There is no renovation at all. That time I was asking one of the staff of museum, why you people are not maintaining the building? Then he replies that “Our government has not provided fund for renovation and maintenance of the building.”
This Itaford is telling many things without saying anything about our capital. I think every archeological site is very precious for society as well as for government also because it has main tourist attraction of our state.
Lastly I request our government of Arunachal Pradesh kindly provide them sufficient fund for preservation and maintenance of the Museum. It is my earnest request to citizen of capital complex “Save Itafort and Save Itanagar” because Itafort is proud of Capital Complex.

Register strong protest against stapled visa
Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your Readers Form, I would like to express my sentiment regarding issue of stapled visa to two young archers from Arunachal Pradesh by Chinese Embassy from New Delhi resulted preventing them to enter China, which appeared on various national News Channels as well as on local news papers
This is not a new issue. Chinese Govt. has been doing it since several years. Politicians, bureaucratic, sports persons and people belongs to Arunachal Pradesh have been barred from entering China with stapled visa earlier. Ever since politically, socially, culturally and demographically Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India which we knew it. But, in
contradiction, Chinese govt. never treated Arunachal as an integral part under Union Govt. of India nor a disputed land, rather claiming Arunachal Pradesh as south China under their nation again and again. But the state as well as Union Govt. treat it as TIME PASS objections raised by Chinse Govt. at International forum.
As a result, repeated incursions are taking place at various point of international Border in Arunachal. There is nothing serious, neither from the union Govt. nor from State about the issue since stapled Visas were started issuing to Arunachalee.
The Union Govt. have been informed by the Chinese counterpart that people from Arunachal & Jammu & Kashmir can enter China without visa as they are Chinese national! This much of indication were quite enough for Govt. of Arunachal as well as Govt. of India about the devil intention of China over Arunachal Pradesh issue.
The stapled visa is not a new issue to both the young archers. This issue could have been solved many years ago at the initial stage when it occurred.
Alas, who will bother about us? Of course, we have three MP’s from our state to represent Arunachalees and to raise voice in highest forum of our country for the causes of Arunachal Pradesh, but we were dumped, reasons best known to them. Do you ever seen them presenting this issue at both the House of Parliament? Your answer would be “No”.
Moreover, our Ministers and MLAs spend 70% of their five year tenure at New Delhi. Had their stay at New Delhi brought only result of stapled Visa against own people? When your to & fro, food & lodging in luxurious suite along with your kits & kin expenditure are being born from the State Exchequer, please do something for your own people as well.
Hence, in order to represent ourselves with dignity under a particular nation a strong protest movement have to be lunch now. How long we shall be treated as people of “Disputed Land,” with no particular nation.
I think it is appropriate time to tender mass resignation to the Govt.of India by
our MP trio in protest against step-
The present Congress Govt. in the state also needs to lead & launch strong protest against the issue irrespective of political color.
Now ‘who will save us? Who are the people whom we have to depend? If China takes our land, where we shall go? You may say that China can not take our land, is everyone’s perception, but they want to punish us mentally and statically under so called “Disputed land people.”
It is high time for every Arunachalee including NGOs and state Govt to organize a dharna in front of Parliament House at New Delhi protesting against issue of Stapled Visas by the Chinese embassy.

Stapled Visa and Arunachal Pradesh

It’s really a matter of great concern that, till today the issue of Stapled visa is not resolved. I feel humiliated, as the GOI is not taking the issue seriously. This is definitely an emotional issue. We can only hope the present Union Minister Ninong Ering can take up this matter with PM and as advised by former MP K Rijiju, the matter should be resolved at summit level or at bilateral talks between India and China.
Arunachal had never been a part of China as many historians had proved it several times. So, the GOI should resolve the matter immediately.
I certainly hope the Political leaders of Arunachal along with all Political leaders of North East should raise this issue seriously with GOI. The sooner the better.

region compared to many other parts of the world, contains very diverse patterns
of human trafficking -
Examples range from men, women, children and families trafficked into Thailand from Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia for forced prostitution, domestic servitude, or forced labour in sweatshops, fishing boats, construction sites, plantations, or farms Vietnamese girls and young women trafficked for sexual exploitation and virginity selling in Cambodia.
Children from Cambodian or Myanmar border areas and rural Vietnam or China are trafficked to beg or sell flowers on the streets of larger cities, while women and girls from Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam are increasingly being found in forced prostitution or domestic servitude in Malaysia. Trafficked Thai women are also found in the sex trade in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Africa, the Middle East, the United States and Western Europe.
